Threeplustwo is an unlikely family band. Three triplets (bassoonist Ivy Ringel, bassist Lowell Ringel, and trombonist Evan Ringel) bring their divergent musical paths together, joining forces with long-time collaborators saxophonist David Leon and guitarist Jonah Udall to form this unique chamber ensemble. They blend jazz, folk and classical influences in original compositions imbued with a rich color palette. Emanating familial love, their music shines with both improvisatory vitality and razor sharp precision.

The musical roots of North America are explored in this concert, as the ISO performs music by Jerod Tate, a classical composer and citizen of the Chickasaw Nation in Oklahoma. Based on Native American Indian lore, Tate’s Ghost of the White Deer for solo bassoon and orchestra describes the quest of a lovesick man searching for a white deer, which is sacred to the Chickasaw people.
Other works on the program include Dvorak’s New World Symphony, and Jesse Montgomery’s Rounds for Piano and String Orchestra.

Threeplustwo is an unlikely family band. Three triplets bring their divergent musical paths together for the first time, joining with two long-time collaborators and close friends to form this unique chamber ensemble. Their music blends jazz, folk and classical influences in original compositions imbued with a rich color palette. Emanating familial love, their debut album shines with both improvisatory vitality and razor sharp precision.
The Ringel triplets grew up in North Carolina surrounded by music of all sorts, leading them each to craft a distinct musical identity. Bassoonist Ivy Ringel performs with the Atlanta Opera Orchestra, bassist Lowell Ringel is a prolific performer/composer/educator in Miami, Florida, and trombonist Evan Ringel tours with folk collective Look Homeward, in addition to his burgeoning jazz career. In Threeplustwo they combine forces with David Leon, an award-winning saxophonist making waves on New York’s creative music scene, and Jonah Udall, a Californian-turned-Brooklynite guitarist whose work fuses improvisation, folk music, and dance.
